The Billionaire Beggar
listed in personal growth, originally published in issue 308 - February 2026
It was a fine morning and the sun was just starting out it daily journey seemingly moving from east to west. People were outside in the fine dawn air taking their morning walk. A few highly energetic folks were jogging along the sidewalk. All of them passed by a well-dressed beggar who would greet them all with a beaming smile and a "Good Morning this fine day" Most would ignore him, but a few would reply back good morning to you. Just a handful would reach into their pockets and give the beggar a few dollars.
The beggar became a permanent fixture sitting on a sidewalk bench-wishing folks good morning, and the folks that gave him any money became less and less. However, one kind lady noticed nobody was giving him anything so she increased the money she gave him even though she could hardly afford to do so.

When we give from the heart and not because we want our name in lights,
our rewards come back to us in many unexpected ways.
Then, one morning as the lady was putting her dollars into the hand of the beggar he gently held her wrist and placed a check into it. She looked at it and she smiled, for it read... "Pay the bearer $1,000,000. She remarked it was a nice gesture and only wished it were true. The beggar stood up, pulled out a cell phone and quickly made a call. Within one minute, a new chauffeur driven Rolls Royce came to a halt beside them. The chauffeur got out and said.... Are you ready to go home sir? He gave the woman a big hug and whispered in her ear...You have a good heart and a kind soul and the million dollars is your reward for giving when nobody else did.

Autumn in Spring
Why are the leaves falling,
from those few trees in spring,
asks dis-gusted evergreens, to all their associates,
a pow-wow of all the normal trees was called,
the council of sophisticate brainy trees,
sentenced all the spring leaf-falling trees to death,
because they could not function like a normal tree,
thank goodness ... humans aren't as unfeeling as trees?
