Abstract

McKEOWN, Vitamin K Laboratory, Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center, Tufts University, Boston MA 02111, USA reviews (32 references) the field regarding antioxidants and breast cancer risk.

Background

Methodology

Results

The author writes that a recent prospective study found that the consumption of fruits and vegetables which were high in specific carotenoids and vitamins reduced breast cancer risk in premenopausal women. The observed protection might not be due to the anticarcinogenic mechanism of a single nutrient; further prospective studies which relate blood and dietary micronutrients to risk of breast cancer should be carried out.
