Abstract
LIU and FANG, Department of Acupuncture and Massotherapy, Qujing Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Qujing City 655000, Yunnan Province, China, have described the use of acupuncture in the therapy of facial paralysis, facial spasms and trigeminal neuralgia. Abstract: It has been shown that needling at the points Fengchi (GB 20), Wangu (GB 12) and Tianzhu (BL 10) can markedly improve the blood supply to the vertebral artery, increase the blood flow to the brain, and relax spasms of vascular smooth muscles. The combined use of Shangxing (GV 23) and Yintang (EX-HN3) can give the effects of resuscitating and calming the mind, dispelling wind, dredging the channels, and relieving spasm and pain. The combined use of the two approaches can bring a quicker recovery for patients with facial spasm, trigeminal neuralgia and stubborn facial paralysis.
