Abstract

GRAZZI and colleagues, C. Besta National Neurological Institute, Via Celoria 11, I-20133 Milan, Italy, have lectured on chronic headaches in young patients. Abstract: Chronic daily headache is the term used for the condition of patients who suffer from recurrent headaches, typically on 15 days every month, without an underlying serious medical condition. In adults this condition was described in 1987. It has been difficult to estimate the prevalence of the condition in children because universal criteria have not been reached yet. The condition is a source of concern and disability for both the patient and their family. It may be associated with comorbid anxiety or depression, resulting in a tremendous amount of dysfunction for the young person and their family.

Comment

Comment: Headache is a significant clinical condition, affecting a large minority of the population. The above research approaches, with acupuncture, infrared laser and TENS, as well as behavioural therapies are important, and hopefully will yield encouraging results.
