Abstract
ARMAIZ-PENA and COLLEAGUES, Department of Gynecologic Oncology, University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1155 Herman Pressler, Unit 1362, Houston, TX 77030, USA review (43 references) and describe the effects of neuro-endocrine factors upon cancer progression.
Background
Clinical and animal studies now support the notion that psychological factors such as stress, chronic depression, and lack of social support might promote tumour growth and progression.
Methodology
Recently, cellular and molecular studies have started to identify biological processes that could mediate such effects.
Results
This review provides a mechanistic understanding of the relationship between biological and behavioural influences in cancer and points to more comprehensive behavioural and pharmacological approaches for better patient outcomes. [References: 43]
