The Victim of a Created Crisis — Left Behind It is not news to anyone that there is an opioid crisis in America. Something needs to be done and done quickly to reduce the number of valuable lives lost daily...I want to share the story of a friend who is a victim of the opioid crisis, but she is not a victim in the way most are accustomed to thinking of people involved in this crisis. My friend Diane is a 68-year-old who has been healthy most of her life. Then, in 2007, she was hit by an out of control teenage driver on an interstate highway. Just like that, her life changed.

Treatment and Recovery There are many treatment options available for those struggling with a substance use disorder (SUD) or alcohol use disorder (AUD). The type of treatment needed depends on the patient’s unique situation, level of addiction, and the kind of substance(s) he or she is abusing. In some cases, more than one treatment is necessary.

Addictions are intensifiers. If you have a physical disability, an addiction can worsen your discomfort and increase your limitations. Addictions and physical illness can also intertwine. Addressing just one problem allows the other to worsen. Addictions complicated by physical limitations can be treated. They must be addressed at the same time, and your doctor must take your history into account when developing your recovery plan.

Drug Rehab Connections
Drug Rehab Connections was founded by a group of individuals who know both sides of addiction. We know it from our personal lives as well as engaging and working with rehab and treatment centers. We are not a Treatment Center We are a starting point to finding individuals and families help that are battling addiction. We are not afraid to call addiction what it is, a disease. We believe that we can’t help those who need help unless we are ready to call addiction what it truly is.

Where to Get Support for Drug and Alcohol Addicted Students As most students will confirm, making it through college is not a walk in the park with an endless amount of assignments, living independently, and learning how to cope with all the struggles. In addition to anxiety and depression, substance abuse and alcohol addiction represent a serious issue. According to statistics, 70% have tried alcohol by reaching their senior high school year, while 50% had trouble with illicit drugs. A reason for such a situation lies in socio-cultural factors that force individuals to believe that substance abuse will help them to fit within social circles and boost their energy levels.

Employment Law Handbook
Firing Employees With Drinking Problems This public health crisis is documented in two recent studies. One tracked the drinking habits of 40,000 Americans between 2002 and 2003 and again between 2012 and 2013 reflected an alarming trend in alcohol use. Based on extrapolated data, the JAMA Psychiatry study found that “alcohol use disorders” increased drastically, and that approximately one in eight Americans battle an alcohol use disorder. Then a different study found that nearly 17 million Americans grapple with some aspect of alcohol addiction. That study also found that alcoholism takes a staggering toll on the American economy, costing industry roughly $186 billion per year based on: lost productivity; damages caused by alcoholic employees; and potential liability for any acts perpetrated by such employees that result in workplace injuries.

Signs of a Benzodiazepine Overdose Benzodiazepine is a drug class that comprises prescription tranquilizers and sedatives. Mental health practitioners often prescribe them to treat various mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, muscle relaxation, seizure control, and insomnia. These drugs work by producing calming, euphoric, and sedative effects that enhance an individual’s likelihood of using the drugs for recreation or to increase the treatment effects.

Stimulants vs. Depressants Different types of drugs affect people differently. This can be due to the fact that each person’s body is made up differently, and situational differences can also have an impact. However, doctors have been able to categorize the vast number of drugs that exist by symptomologies and effects they most commonly induce. Two of these categories are stimulants and depressants. The commonalities between the two aren’t immediately obvious given they have opposite effects, which we’ll get into later—but they do both affect the Central Nervous System (CNS). If taken improperly and/or abused, both can lead to addiction. They also are mood/mind–altering substances; they can change how a person thinks, feels, and behaves.
