Remote Healthcare

Remote-Healthcare

The Remote Healthcare programme was originally developed for the international medical polar community (British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit – BASMU) with increasing interest in recent years from the Military and other areas where it is essential to have clinicians trained to meet the unique challenges and emergencies that arise in diverse and remote environments that are removed from definitive clinical practice.  Those with an interest in expedition and exploration medicine, in addition to clinicians working in normal healthcare practice in a variety of isolated and remote environments, and clinicians who are deployed in the British Forces will also benefit from the wider curriculum.

The programme aims to develop practitioners with advanced knowledge, skills and understanding of current issues influencing the organisation, delivery and leadership of remote healthcare and the challenges of expedition planning, and the use of remote information sources such as telemedicine, to equip them with the advanced skills necessary to critically analyse and synthesise a range of information in order to make safe and effective decisions in complex, unpredictable and remote situations.
