The Orthomolecular Medicine News Service OMNS is an independent, peer-reviewed public education service dedicated to reporting the latest advances in nutritional and orthomolecular medicine. Founded in 2005 by the late Dr Andrew W Saul, in collaboration with Dr Hugh Riordan and Steven Carter, OMNS was created to make scientific information on vitamins, nutrition, and integrative health freely and widely accessible—especially in the face of censorship, bias, and institutional neglect. OMNS originated as a response to the exclusion of the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine from mainstream indexing platforms such as PubMed, transforming decades of research into a public online archive through orthomolecular.org. Since its founding, OMNS has released over 470 peer-reviewed articles, translated into eight languages, with contributions from a global editorial board of 40+ scientists and physicians. Significantly, OMNS operates without advertising, sponsorship, industry or government funding. It maintains full editorial independence to ensure the uncensored dissemination of health information based solely on scientific evidence and clinical experience to enrich the lives of the public. During the COVID-19 pandemic, OMNS played a vital role in countering medical censorship and promoting life-saving, nutrition-based protocols – releasing over 55 bulletins in 2020 alone.
Following Dr Saul’s passing in early 2024, OMNS continues its mission under the leadership of Dr Richard Z Cheng MD PhD., a US.-based Physician, Scientist, and Educator. Dr Cheng is a global advocate of the orthomolecular medicine-based approach, integrating the best elements of functional, anti-ageing, and other innovative medical disciplines, emphasizing healthy lifestyle practices. These include dietary principles including low-carbohydrate intake, elimination of ultra-processed foods (including industrial seed oils), and intermittent fasting – all unified into a comprehensive strategy for disease prevention and health optimization, aiming for a healthy, happy, and long life for all. International board of editors of OMNS and Dr Cheng are committed to carrying forward the legacy of orthomolecular pioneers including Dr Linus Pauling, Dr Abram Hoffer, Dr Hugh Riordan, and Dr Andrew Saul
OMNS remains a leading global voice in orthomolecular medicine, advocating for the safe and evidence-based use of micronutrients – including vitamins C and D3, magnesium, zinc, and others – in the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. The orthomolecular approach has demonstrated effectiveness across a broad spectrum of conditions, ranging from epidemic control to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, mental health disorders, and cancer. Its mission is to empower patients and practitioners with reliable, research-backed knowledge to restore and protect health.
