Former UN human rights chief and International Court of Justice judge Navi Pillay has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The South African judge was recognised "for her efforts to promote peace and international law", which paved the way for a "more comprehensive global legal order", the Nobel committee said.
The Trump administration has imposed sweeping sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC), saying it wants to restrict the tribunal's resources and ability to operate. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the measures – which include a ban on US entities making transactions with the ICC – were intended to "defend US sovereignty" and accused the court of seeking to prosecute Americans.
The man accused of murdering Ann Widdecombe had a "particular hostility to Reform", prosecutors alleged on Friday. They said Joshua Kerry, 28, "had an extreme left wing and/or anti-establishment mindset". The prosecution also told the Old Bailey Widdecombe's murder had a "terrorist connection" as it was "politically and ideologically motivated".
Zack Polanski has vowed to stay on as Green Party leader after his by-election defeat, as he faced pressure from within his own party to resign. The leader of the Jewish Greens, Vivien Lichtenstein, said on Friday he should resign, adding it was a "big mistake" for him to have dodged a debate about a party conference motion that declared Zionism a form of racism.
Lichtenstein's comments come after two former Green leaders accused Polanski of failing to show leadership over the Zionism row.
Here are a number of authoritative sites with a non-mainstream take on health news:
The Alliance for Natural Health The more UPFs we eat, the greater the risk. Another sizeable piece of evidence has been added to the ultra-processed food [UPF] puzzle. Pooling 51 prospective studies involving nearly 8.82 million people, researchers, publishing in The BMJ, found higher UPF consumption was associated with increased risks across a remarkable spectrum of ill health, from cardiovascular and digestive disease to diabetes, obesity, depression and premature death, with several risks increasing as consumption rose. Observational research can’t prove UPFs caused these outcomes, but the authors point beyond the usual sugar-fat-salt explanation towards altered food structure, additives, processing contaminants, microbiome disruption and inflammation.
Dr Sircus explains why magnesium and bicarbonate are central to his approach to protecting the body in increasingly polluted environments. Air pollution is an unavoidable reality for millions of people living in cities. Add wildfire smoke and other environmental contaminants, and Dr. Sircus believes the question should not only be what is in the air — but how we support the body when exposed to it. Dr. Sircus explains why he considers bicarbonate a first-line substance in his approach to environmental toxicity and why magnesium is equally important for maintaining the cellular energy and biological processes involved in the body’s natural detoxification systems.
GreenMedInfo.com The Overlooked Strategy for Healthier Eyes. Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) is the leading cause of blindness in elderly Western populations and it is marked by central vision loss where blind spots or scotomas intrude. Threading a needle and passing the driver's licensing test eventually become impossible but ARMD is preventable – even reversible to some degree with the diligent, intelligently targeted efforts we have put into practice in our clinics to increase the chances of success. The best doctor's recommendations or nutritional consulting for ARMD are fruitless unless nutrients are able to be broken down or micellized, transported to the macula, and assimilated there.... The target nutrients used in past studies to prevent, halt, or reverse ARMD are lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene, antioxidants, and fish oil. The carotenoids (lutein, zeaxanthin, and beta-carotene) concentrate in the central part of the retina, and help us identify colours and see fine details, so they are vital in a healing strategy. They also provide protection against blue light, which damages the retina. Building macular optical pigment density (MOPD) is the goal in this approach, replenishing the macula; but first we have to break down these carotenoids and antioxidants and then shuttle them to the macula by following several simple tactics…
Dr John Mercola How Brief Breaks from Sitting May Benefit Cognition
Breaking up long periods of sitting with brief movement may improve certain thinking skills, with the strongest evidence showing benefits for memory and executive function... Just four three-minute activity breaks during 80 minutes of sitting helped adolescents maintain the brain’s oxygen-rich blood response during a demanding memory task. Some improvements in working memory, attention and reaction speed persisted for up to 30 minutes after activity ended, suggesting the benefits don’t necessarily disappear when you sit back down. Regular movement breaks complement rather than replace exercise, so aim to interrupt sitting throughout the day while gradually working toward an hour of daily walking and strength training twice a week.
