The war in Gaza continues with diplomatic initiatives continuing and ongoing. The US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) says it is winding down its aid operations in the Palestinian territory, after almost six months. The organisation had already suspended its three food distribution sites in Gaza after the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect six weeks ago.

The Russia-Ukraine war carries on with continued destruction and death on all side. A recent updated peace plan could be a deal Ukraine will take – eventually

In the latest climate summit – COP30, five key takeaways from a deeply divisive climate summit. In three decades of these meetings aimed at forging global consensus on how to prevent and deal with global warming, this will go down as among the most divisive. Many countries were livid when COP30 in Belém, Brazil ended on Saturday with no mention of the fossil fuels that have heated up the atmosphere. Other nations - particularly those with most to gain from their continued production - felt vindicated. The summit was a reality check on just how much global consensus has broken down over what to do about climate change.

Here are a number of authoritative sites with a non-mainstream take on health news:

The Alliance for Natural Health reports that early gut health may affect children’s mental health: The composition of a child’s gut microbiome at age two could influence their risk of developing mental health issues by age 6-7 years. Children with higher levels of bacteria from the Clostridiales order and Lachnospiraceae family were more likely to experience emotional challenges later on. The researchers, publishing in Nature Communications, discovered that these gut microbes appear to affect communication between emotion-related brain networks, suggesting that early microbial imbalances could help “program” brain circuits linked to emotional wellbeing. The findings provide evidence that fostering a healthy gut microbiome in early life could be key to emotional resilience in later childhood.

The Journal OBM Integrative and Complementary Medicine 2024, Volume 9, Issue 3, doi:10.21926/obm.icm.2403045  reports that in some patients, coronavirus (COVID-19) can cause symptoms that last weeks or even months after the infection has gone. A Case Study aimed to describe the effect of adjunctive individualized homeopathic treatment delivered to Long COVID-19 patients with previously confirmed symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection… All but one patient, hence 93.3%, experienced a timely improvement to complete healing after individualized homeopathic treatment, characterized by modified Naranjo criteria of at least 8 points. The observations suggest that adjunctive individualized homeopathic treatment might be considered for patients suffering from Long COVID-19 even with severe long-term sequelae of COVID-19.
