Personality, Types and the Energygram

There is a common basis of personality the world over. The commonality is energy, not just the nebulous concept of 'energy' per se, but specific energies or thoughts. Every person contains all possible energies but has chosen one particular type of energy on which to base their life. This decision over how life is to be lived has given patterns over their physical appearance, how they respond to problems and also patterns of illness associated with the personality. These patterns can be investigated and mapped out by investigating some of the oldest belief systems and therapies around the world, as well as some of the newest ones.
.
At the beginning is the soul, newly arrived on the earth and free to experience life. As a baby explores its world it watches, feels and experiences a variety of emotions from interactions with those around it. The young child quickly learns to make decisions over how to react and of how they want their life to be. These free choices made so very early in life form the basis of the personality for the rest of life; or even if reincarnation is accepted as a possibility, then the basis of the personality for all time.

There are three major choices that the child faces:

  1. Does he/she wish to become a strong, courageous leader that others rely on. Can they see clearly the causes of problems. Can they see solutions and act on them.  These are the energies of the 'Champion';
  2. Does he/she want their imagination to soar high and to inspire others with snippets gleamed from the world of dreams or from afar. These are the energies or choices of the 'Dreamer';
  3. Does he/she only desire to be friends with others, to join in with their chatter and to provide encouragement to their friends. These are the thoughts of energies of the 'Socialite'.
All of the above energies exist within everyone, but we have all made choices as to the most important energies for us as an individual and these have become the basis of our personality. They also give clues to our physical nature and to any health problems that may arise. These choices also begin to affect the physical body. The 'Champion' is the person who is always active either mentally or physically. They usually have a thin or ectomorph body shape.

The 'Socialite' has chosen that their friends are the most important thing in life and so sitting and listening to them make up their character. These people are usually rather sedentary and easily put on weight in the endomorph group.

The middle group of the 'Dreamers' are the middle type of people in terms of body shape. These are the mesomorphs.

The three body shapes have been investigated since the 1940s when WH Sheldon associated body shape with personality and coined the terms ectomorphs, mesomorph and endomorph. The personality traits he associated with the three groups are amazingly similar to those found in Ayurvedic medicine and in the three groups of the Champion, the Dreamer and the Socialite.

These three divisions of the soul are also to be found within the caduceus in the tree of Life in the Kabbalah.

The 3 Choices of the Soul

These patterns of energy flow can be seen as the flows wend their way through the body connecting with the organs as they rise upwards.

Sub divisions of the major choices give six groups or types of people. The thoughts of the 'Champion' can be divided further into:
  1. The person who wants to be courageous and do something extraordinary. These are the energies of Courage;
  2. The person who wants to be the thinker and who is able to formulate ideas, to understand laws and justice and feels responsible for others. These are the energies of Strength.
The thoughts of the Dreamer can be sub divided into:
  1. The person who wants to be directly inspired by the sparks from the world of dreams. These are the energies of Love;
  2. The person who has chosen to be inspired by the world of nature allowing their thoughts to flow freely. These are the energies of Peace.
The thoughts of the Socialite can be sub divided into:
  1. The person who chooses to learn from their friends. These are the energies of Wisdom;
  2. The person who chooses to respect their friends and the choices they have made. These are the energies of Respect.
There are now have six divisions of energy or thoughts. At this level of energy pattern we are looking at the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

These six types of energy can be further sub divided into twelve types depending on whether the person has chosen to be an extrovert or introvert.  The introvert chooses to hold things close to themselves and is often more grounded and secure inside. These are the yin personalities. The extrovert chooses to reach out more to others whether to help others or needing confirmation from others and has the yang energies.  These twelve energies or thoughts are the sum of all the energies within everyone. The pattern of energies at this level is found within the twelve energy channels or meridians as used within Acupuncture, Shiatsu, Kinesiology and the Emotional Freedom Technique.

At its simplest level every person has chosen one of the twelve energies to be their foundation, grounding and the basis of their life. This choice also gives the basis of the personality.  There are twelve distinct personality types each one based on the energy of thoughts. This gives an 'Energygram' of twelve distinct personality types.

The Energygram

Each type of personality has differences in how they react to problems and to others. Because of the energy people have chosen as most important, each type of Personality tends to produce people who take on certain jobs and behave in similar ways.

Personality Type I of Courage

Courage is the ability to do something special, often putting others first. These energies are associated with the energies of the Champion. The courage may be to lead others in times of war or the courage to stand up against the bully on the school bus. The people who have chosen a path of courage may be seen as rather aloof, as they metaphorically are standing on one side ready to act if necessary. They usually have a clear vision of rights and wrongs and may develop spiritual interests. People who have chosen these energies willingly take on leadership or spiritual roles in many walks of life.

These people have chosen to base their life on the energies of courage. Water is often very important to them as external water as in gazing onto a river or waterfall, and also internal water as in being fully hydrated to be able to make snap decisions as a leader often needs to do. Unfortunately as life has progressed, the energies of courage have become blocked and lessened. Instead of glorious courage flooding out to others, the channels may have become blocked with the opposite energy, that of fear.

In Ayurvedic medicine, Type 1 people belong to the vata group. In Chinese medicine they are a part of the water group and are most susceptible to the cold pathogens. In Acupuncture the energies of courage flow within the bladder meridian. At a physical level the energies are found in the muscles around the spine helping to give the courage to stand tall and to hold the head high.  Emotions of fear act to block the energies of courage as they are associated with the sympathetic nervous trunk along side the spine and our reflex reactions to fear which include loss of control of the bladder. The bladder meridian itself lies alongside the sympathetic nervous trunk, allowing easy access to remove blocks from within this channel.

Each of the twelve personality types has particular ways of looking at the world and in dealing with problems giving rise to specific physical aches and illnesses and emotional issues. When the people of courage become ill they often have problems with muscles, joints and the bladder. It is as if the water that is so important to them has frozen with fear inside the body, leading metaphorically to tight muscles from the cold and internal freezing of urine in the bladder.

The Energygram is similar to the Enneagram which describes personality in terms of nine personality groups. By investigating the world of alternative therapies and their common basis in the world of 'energy' it can be seen that there are twelve personality types, each based on physical, emotional as well as energetic patterns.
