Light on Parenting Conference

Saturday 5 - Sunday 6 May 2012

Institute of Child Health, London

Light on Parenting: from conception to the early years is the most inclusive public conference ever organized on early parenting in the UK.

Light on Parenting Conference

It is a truly unmissable gathering of eminent speakers whose focus, from different angles and disciplines, is to facilitate new parents’ realization that they ARE the experts and to empower them to relate to their babies with greater awareness. The conference is a call to parents and those who are passionate about their work with parents, infants, and around pregnancy and birth to get together and affirm the benefits of support –rather than advice or information- for confident early parenting. This conference uniquely embraces the whole spectrum of early parenting - from conception through birth to the early childhood years.

The speakers and workshop leaders invited to bring an original angle to support the view that parents ARE the experts helping us reach a better, more intuitive and compassionate understanding of early childhood and parenting are:

  • First Expression therapist David Haas
  • Founder of Birthlight Françoise Freedman
  • Director of Education and Training at The Centre for Child Mental Health London Dr Margot Sunderland
  • Emeritus Professor of Midwifery at Sheffield Hallam University Mavis Kirkham

Irene Royal Jelly Formulation for Nutritional Balance

Irene Stein, with 40 years of experience with a wide spectrum of health conditions, together with Masters of Complex Homeopathy and Plant Knowledge, has created her Unique Royal Jelly Formulation, Irene Royal Jelly.

Irene Product

Irene Royal Jelly combines the healing properties of fresh Royal Jelly, Ginseng, Damiana Aphrodisiaca, Capsicum Minimum and Saw Palmetto to bring balance and restore health.

The individual ingredients are:

  • Korean Ginseng - Ginseng is extracted from the plant Panax Ginseng. The word Panax is Greek in origin and means “all healing”. The Chinese have used Ginseng for thousands of years in their medicines; it is said that ginseng resembles the human body, and according to Chinese medicine, that is one of the reasons why it has such a potent healing effect. Like Royal Jelly, Ginseng is an adaptogen, normalising physiological functioning depending on individual needs (i.e., it will lower high blood pressure, but increase low blood pressure);
  • Capsicum Minimum - Capsicum Minimum is a strong circulatory stimulant and increases blood flow to all tissues. It has antiseptic and counter-irritant properties and is used to reduce pain. Capsicum is used to support the treatment of conditions marked by reduced circulation, to “flush out” diseased tissue and help reverse pathological conditions;
  • Damiana Aphrodisiaca - Damiana is used to combat depression, and as a mild purgative and diuretic, It also acts like testosterone to stimulate and enhance the reproductive system.
  • Echinacea - This is probably one of the most commonly used herbal extracts today, thanks to its powerful effect on the immune system. Studies have confirmed its place as a powerful natural antiseptic whilst clinical trials have shown Echinacea to be an immuno-stimulating plant which has been effectively used to treat clinical infections and chronic inflammatory disease. In fact, 30 of 34 recent studies carried out in Germany into the ability of Echinacea to act as a prophylactic, preventative or therapeutic agent, have demonstrated a positive effect on the body’s ability to resist disease.
  • Saw Palmetto (Serenoa Serrulata) - Saw Palmetto has many applications, chief amongst them being the treatment of urinary problems and catarrhal conditions. It is also used to tone the male reproductive system. Some evidence also suggests that it also has anti-inflammatory properties.

Formulating the Formulation……

In 1980, Irene Stein established links with a talented bio-organic chemist Dr Emile Coufalik. Dr Coufalik specialized in a polymorphic approach to herbology, combining a number of plant extracts, whereby each substance works in synergy with another to produce a total effect that is far greater than the effect of each plant taken in isolation.

Preserving Irene Royal Jelly’s Potency

The primary ingredient in the Irene Royal Jelly Formulation is fresh and unprocessed Royal Jelly. It is a widely held belief that fresh Royal Jelly is infinitely superior to the freeze dried variety. This was, and remains, the firm belief of Irene Stein who, from the outset, was determined to use only the pure and fresh variety in the Irene Formulation. The first Royal Jelly products to appear on the western market were in fact all freeze dried. Freeze drying (or lyophilization) is a simple method of preserving Royal Jelly for long periods. However, whilst freeze dried Royal Jelly is considerably cheaper than the fresh variety, it unfortunately does seem to be much less potent.

allergy-information

Spring is a time of rebirth, of blossoming trees and the first signs of summer. But for many people, it is also a time that marks the return of runny noses, sneezes, and sore eyes, as allergy season kicks in. Spring allergies are usually caused by pollens and airborne moulds, and most commonly show themselves as hay fever. It can also be a time that triggers asthma.

A full range of products and advice on allergies is available at www.healthy-house.co.uk  Products that relieve the symptoms of hay fever can include nasal sprays, pollen blockers, masks and items for the home that improve the air quality for severe sufferers.

An all-natural product that works with the body to reduce or prevent symptoms. This homeopathic formula is designed specifically for chronic allergy sufferers, and may help relieve general symptoms and prevent outbreaks. Qu Chi Acupressure Band

The Qu-Chi point has been used for thousands of years by acupuncturists and practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine. The Qu-Chi band operates by stimulating an acupressure point in the crook of your elbow, which helps to free the pathways to your nose and throat, quickly reducing breathing problems and streaming eyes and nose. Because it is a totally drug free natural product there is none of the drowsiness or other side effects associated with many conventional treatments.

European College of K-Practic:  Dr Tedd Koren Seminar 9-10 June

European College of K-Practic (ECKP) can teach you, as a practitioner of any branch of natural treatment, effective and perfectly safe techniques to cure back, neck and limb pain. Enrol in a two year course, after which ECKP  will license you to practice as a fully trained K-Practic Therapist anywhere in the world.

K-Practic Training

You can gain  30 points towards the 200 points required for your K-Practic licence by attending Dr Tedd Koren's  KST seminar in London in June at London (Gatwick) on June 9 - 10, 2012. The Seminar taught by Dr Tedd Koren DC, the originator of this technique, is open to all alternative practitioners.

Many chiropractors, osteopaths and  doctors  are not getting anything like 100 percent success with back and neck pain...because they may not know newly developed effective techniques. Acupuncturists, Kinesiologists, reflexologists, masseurs  feel that these kind of techniques are  ‘out of their field’. Or they're afraid of it and feel it's ‘dangerous’. Other therapists in the more subtle techniques are working with one hand tied behind their backs.

I was in that position myself, some thirty years ago. In 1976 I qualified as an acupuncturist in Sydney, Australia, and started up a practice in Dublin,  Ireland, my home town. In no time at all, I was ‘flying’ and my practice was packed because I was among the first-ever acupuncturists in Ireland and I was getting good results.

But my own back pain had been cured in two treatments by a chiropractor in Australia, and I  wasn't getting that kind of result with my new back patients. Yes, I did get some impressive results with the needles, but I admit I ended up sending some of my back patients to chiropractic colleagues.

I studied many techniques over a number of years. And with the dynamite combination of chiropractic and acupuncture, my practice boomed and continues to boom now, 34 years later. I've never stopped researching back pain techniques all these years, in many countries,  and now I have a treatment package that's probably the best in the world today.

Kiwiherb Valerian - Effective Natural Remedy for Insomnia

Valerian

Phil Rasmussen, highly respected New Zealand Medical Herbalist and creator of the Kiwiherb Herbal Remedies range says, “…an estimated one-in-three people in the UK will suffer from sleeplessness, otherwise known as insomnia, at some time in their lives!  This includes difficulty getting off to sleep, waking in the night or in the early hours of the morning, as well as appearing to sleep for long enough but feeling tired, lethargic and irritable the following day.

“….practising as a medical herbalist in New Zealand, I found that those patients suffering from sleep deprivation experienced significant improvements in their sleep patterns and quality of sleep when taking the herb Valerian; especially if disrupted sleep was the result of worry or nervous tension.  Valerian has a long history of medicinal use, with centuries of anecdotal and scientific research to back its efficacy at helping people experience a peaceful and restful night’s sleep.  However, not all Valerian products are the same, varying in quality and strength and therefore in their effectiveness.”

  • Choose a practitioner-strength Valerian as it provides the required level of the herb’s active ingredients, necessary for delivering a natural sedative action.  High potency Valerian also possesses sufficient anxiety-relieving properties to gently yet effectively settle the mind and body, thereby aiding relaxation and promoting sleep;
  • Make sure the dried root of the Valerian plant is used, as research confirms the root as the most potent part of the plant and that dried rather than fresh roots contain higher levels of active ingredients; making it more effective;
  • Select a tincture form of the herb as clinical trials support the fact that a liquid form of Valerian, rather than capsules or tablets, is faster acting as it is more readily absorbed by the body; an important factor to consider if suffering from insomnia;
  • Take a Valerian remedy that allows you to vary the dosage.  Since the extent of someone’s sleep problems varies from person to person, you should always start by taking a low dose and then gradually increase to a higher dose if needed;
  • Opt for organic where possible and a Valerian product that’s totally natural and in so doing, you’ll be taking one of the most natural, effective yet gentle sleep-aids there is and a remedy that won’t leave you with morning-after drowsiness often associated with pharmaceutical products;

    Robert Gray Intestinal Cleansing Program

    Most of the unhealthy foods eaten today form mucoid substances in the whole intestinal tract. These mucoid substances accumulate in a build-up of stagnant matter in the intestines. Stagnant matter can block proper elimination, inhibit proper absorption of nutrients and serve as a breeding ground for germs and parasites. The Robert Gray Intestinal Cleansing program encourages the health-enhancing bacteria to multiply faster than the intestinal cleansing process can remove them, avoids the use of fasting and enemas, requires only a few minutes each day, is suitable for long-term use with diets and can be performed continuously on a day-by-day basis until the intestinal tract is completely cleansed.

    A New Fight Against Cancer

    On 4 February, World Cancer Day, the public attention for the fight against cancer was raised once more. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a new therapeutic approach which can be used in addition to mainstream treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. PDT and other novel approaches resulting from molecular biological research will be increasingly applied in the future. PDT is a procedure for the treatment of tumours and other tissue mutations. It applies light in combination with a light-activatable substance (photosensitiser) and oxygen present in the tissue. The sensitiser gathers selectively in the tumour or tissue mutation. When the cancer cells are exposed to light with the appropriate wave length, reactive types of oxygen are generated, impacting on and destroying cancer cells.

    Erythrocyte Essential Fatty Acids Profile

    Over the past two decades there has been sustained interest in essential fatty acid supplementation. The focus has now switched from supplementation with fish oil to the use of oils containing specific, enhanced concentrations of named essential fatty acids. Improved distillation processing has helped to enhance the purity of supplemental oils and there are now many studies to support the benefits of essential fatty acid supplementation that reach beyond the area of cardiology. To date, studies which suggest that omega-3 fatty acid consumption has health-beneficial effect include those on the outcome of pregnancy, in the cognitive and visual development of dementia, metabolic syndrome and a variety of other inflammatory conditions.

    Depression’s Immune Effects

    Vicki Myers of Tel Aviv University (TAU) Sackler Faculty of Medicine has conducted research regarding the effects of depression and psychological stress on the human body’s immune system. Heart attack patients who suffer from depression are far more likely to be re-admitted for cardiac events in the future and they spend more time in the hospital than those with sunnier dispositions. These findings indicate that extra psychiatric support can have a life-saving effect and lessen the expensive cost of health care in the  long run.

    Metastatic Breast Cancer Research

    Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is the most lethal form of breast cancer. It spreads easily through the lymphatic and blood vessels, forming metastasis which can lead to multi-organ failure. New research published in BioMed Central’s open access journal Cell Communication and Signalling demonstrates how IBC cells use IL-8, secreted as part of the anti-inflammatory response by a specific set of white blood cells (monocytes), to increase fibronection expression. Fibronectin is a cell-adhesion molecule which is usually involved in wound healing and cell migration during embryogenesis. Over-expression of this molecule is thought to allow cancer to metastasize.

    How To Tell The Forgetful From Those At Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease

    It can be difficult to distinguish between people with normal age-associated memory loss and those with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). However people with aMCI are at greater risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD); identification of these people would mean that they could begin treatment as early as possible. A pilot study has indicated that a short, simple questionnaire (AQ), designed to identify people with AD by using informant-reported symptoms, was also able to recognize people with aMCI. The AQ consists of 21 yes/no questions designed to be answered by a relative or carer in a primary care setting.
