We pay tribute and bid a sad, fond farewell to Stephen Cooper, co-Founder of the Bloomsbury Alexander Centre in London, Alexander teacher and musician, warm-hearted and friendly, with a long-time presence in Positive Health PH Online with whom we have had an association since the turn of the 21st century. Stephen recently died of cancer; his obituary is published in this issue.

My own research and work to publish evidence and promote discussion about holistic cancer treatments pre-date the founding of Positive Health PH Online and are included in my Vitamin C and Nutrition and Cancer books, my Nutritional and Lifestyle Guidelines for People with Cancer; indeed throughout the past 20+ years of Positive Health PH Online, including my most recent research proposal: Cancer Patients’ Survival: Comparing Integrated Alternative Therapies and Chemotherapy / Radiotherapy Treatment.

This Issue 223 of Positive Health PH Online re-publishes the 3rd and Final Part of Dr Tim O’Shea DC’s hard-hitting and brutally frank analysis and prescription for cancer patients - To the Cancer Patient: Natural Cures vs. Traditional: Part III.

“A Lonely Road

Perhaps the greatest difficulty in embarking on a holistic program for cancer is not the discipline required by the program itself. Neither is it the time it required, the money involved, or the newness of the lifestyle. The biggest obstacle is the solitude of it all - you’ll be swimming upstream, by yourself. Chances are you will not get support from your family doctor, any medical professionals, or your family. Chances are you will be attacked and ridiculed by any of the above for not following mainstream slash-and-burn protocols.

“I have seen many patients who were initially open to the holistic approach buckle under pressure from the family to be “sensible” and follow the tried and true. Invariably, they died on schedule, because they didn’t want to “upset anybody.” This is one time in your life that it’s OK to upset people, the one time that it’s fine to be completely selfish. You have a right to your own life, no matter how politically incorrect that notion becomes. If you actually do the research beginning with the appended references, it is virtually impossible not to arrive at a similar conclusion: that mainstream cancer treatment is rarely effective and exists primarily for the benefit of the cancer industry itself, not you. If you go along with their program, it is likely that at some point you will learn the truth of this reality. For most, that point comes too late.”

Carlos Monteiro further develops his previously published Myogenic Theory regarding Stress as a major factor in Heart Attacks. In his Letter to the Editor Cancer: Atherosclerosis and Sympathetic Dominance Monteiro discussing biochemical / clinical similarities between cancer and atherosclerosis:

“These results suggest that the formation of new nerve fibres within and around prostate tumours can alter tumour behaviour. The autonomic nervous system appears to exert dual functions in prostate cancer: Sympathetic neonerves promote early stages of tumorigenesis, whereas parasympathetic nerve fibres promote cancer dissemination. Conceivably, drugs targeting both branches of the autonomic nervous system could provide therapeutic benefit.”

Dr Robert Verkerk PhD discusses and elucidates the multi-faceted biochemical, clinical, physiological, emotional and physical interplay factors underlying our weight, diet and metabolism in Blueprint to Healthy Eating, Fuelling and Exercising:

“What principles mean that someone has obtained a state of metabolic flexibility and resilience?

  1. They are keto-adapted and are able to readily burn fats for fuel;
  2. They regularly practise caloric restriction (intermittent fasting) through fasting between meals. This is quite different from just eating fewer calories every day, little and often!
  3. They are physically active (at least 1-2 hours moderate activity/day);
  4. Their diet is anti-inflammatory and loaded with phytonutrients from the 6 main colour groups of the phytonutrient spectrum;
  5. The bulk of their diet, in terms of its energy contribution, does not come from carbohydrates - wholegrain or otherwise!
  6. They show no signs of metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance, either in muscles or in other tissues and therefore have ideal or near-ideal body compositions (muscle/adipose/visceral fat ratios);
  7. They have modified their nutritional intake, eating habits and lifestyle in such a way as to largely offset any disadvantageous genetic limitations or polymorphisms they may carry;
  8. Their diet and activity levels create psychoemotional flexibility too, meaning more emotional balance – and yes, happiness!”

The insanity of how our health concerns are translated into NHS Medical Practice are eloquently / crazily described by Dr Amir’s blog entry Orthodontics And Health - A Scary State of Affairs  - an apocryphal description of one patient’s merry-go-round journey around countless consultants who happily prescribe more and more test and x-rays but who refuse to consider that the patient’s TMJ pain could be related to her constellation of symptoms.

In summation, the articles published in Issue 223 encompass a wide array of holistic topics, including Hormone Health, Our Minds and Thoughts, Homeopathy, Ayurvedic Lifestyle, Healthy Living, Positive Thoughts, Sleep, Sense of Smell, Cancer, Juices v Smoothies, Healthy Eating, Breakfast, Orthodontics, Balance and Yoga.

Considering that conventional cancer treatments haven’t yet embraced holistic dietary, nutritional, herbal and oxygen-based therapies described with success over >120 years due to continuous opposition from the medical profession, it appears likely that cancer patients - and that means one in three of us - may need to take the “Lonely Road” for the foreseeable future until the perfection of personalized immune cancer treatments become a reality.
