CHANG, Pharmanex Inc., Simi Valley California 93065 USA. jchang@pharmanex.com writes that in the United States traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) are sold as dietary supplements, defined under The dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). The author discusses issues regarding the characterisation of the pharmacological activity of TCM herb and the development of a standardised herbal extract .
