The 5 Best Posture Exercises to Help Ease Back Pain Use these exercises to help alleviate back aches and improve your lifting form. People spend a lot of time hunched over. A study published in JAMA surveyed 6,000 people and a quarter of them reported sitting for more than eight hours a day. (1) And all that sitting can wreak havoc on your posture, causing lower back pain. (2) In the gym, poor posture can lead to a reduced range of motion and poor form on moves like the back squat and bench press. In addition to standing more and taking frequent walks throughout the day, you can improve your posture and hopefully relieve back pain by focusing on a select few exercises. The posture exercises on this list will strengthen your shoulders, traps, and spinal erectors, which all play a role in stabilizing your spine and keeping you upright.

In June 2020, Stanford University Economist Nicholas Bloom said that 42% of working people in the US worked from home full-time. A study by Pew Research Center concluded that while 20% of people worked from home before the Covid-19 pandemic, by December 2020, that number has risen to 71%. The Pew Research Center also reports that out of the people forced to work from home because of the pandemic, 54% said they would like to work from home even when the outbreak ends. The numbers above show that while the coronavirus outbreak may not have started the working from home trend, it has undoubtedly been a catalyst for the establishment of many a home office. Many of these offices do not fit the idea of good ergonomics. Ergonomics is the process of arranging or designing spaces and products to fit the individuals that use them. In this article, we look at some home office ergonomic statistics you may need to know.

Home and Office Modifications to Help Relieve Back Pain Experiencing Back Pain at Home and WorkBack pain is such a typical part of life, people may think it is almost normal. About four in five people will suffer from lower back pain at some point in their lives. Herniated discs, strained muscles, and bad posture are the typical causes. People are more likely to miss work as a result of a sore back and it is a major reason people claim a job-related disability. Back pain ranges from minor to very serious and can feel very differently from one person to the next. Since it is so common, many people fail to take it seriously until the pain becomes an obstacle they cannot overcome. The home and office environment are notorious for making back pain hard to manage or prevent. Changing the sleeping, sitting, or working spaces to accommodate a better ergonomic environment may be the only way people can continue to function. This requires research and close attention to the places where people spend most of their time. By making changes to the room and developing healthy habits, people can stop back pain from turning into a problem they cannot handle. And don't make the mistake that "new" means "ergonomic" — even new construction homes can be designed in a way that is not conducive to protecting your back.

Is Sitting Still Bad? (A 2021 Review of the Research) “Sitting is the new smoking,” tweeted Stuart Millinship on August 27, 2010. This tweet was a response to a post “reporting that even if you get plenty of physical exercise, sitting down all day reduces your lifespan.” At first glance, Millinship’s tweet may sound like hyperbole, but it is based on the views of academics like Dr. James Levine, the man who invented the treadmill desk. Dr. Levine, who is also the director of the Mayo Clinic – Arizona State University Obesity Solutions Initiative, argues that “Sitting is more dangerous than smoking, kills more people than HIV, and is more treacherous than parachuting.” Concluding, “We are sitting ourselves to death.” The views above lead us to a vital question: Is sitting as harmful as smoking? In this article, we attempt to answer the question above. To do this, we spent some time looking at what the latest research says about sitting. If sitting is indeed so bad that it can be compared to smoking, we find ourselves with a second question: Are standing desks the answer?

Ultimate Guide to Gaming Comfort: Proper Posture and Desk Ergonomics Introduction: Does Posture Matter? This article will look at the various elements that make up comfort while sitting at a desk for extended periods of time, especially relating to gaming and computer activities. Gamers are particularly prone to experiencing problems associated with bad posture, which is not surprising given the number of hours they put in as practice. With more colleges and universities creating space for competitive eSports teams, it’s becoming an increasingly recognized sport, although not officially according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) which means there are no regulations regarding injured players and no safeguarding measures in place to protect these eSport gamers’ posture and health. In fact, the market tracking company NewZoo predicted that by 2021, eSports would have a global audience of 1.1 billion with professional eSport players earning well over $1.5 billion in sponsorship deals and competition prize money, so as an industry it’s burting with potential.
