Matthew Seal’s CIEP first recorded proper words (according to his mother, who wouldn’t exaggerate on such a matter) were ‘meadowsweet’, uttered on a nature walk in the River Trent marshes when he was nearly three. He grew up in a family of gardeners and botanists and, while not following his kinfolk into professional gardening or horticulture, he has never forgotten this early ‘greening’, and delights in herb walks and botanical rambles. He is a career editor and author of books, magazines and newspapers, in both the UK and South Africa. He is author of Survive and Thrive in the New South Africa. He also  has experience in design and as a production manager for a radical publisher. He was awarded a Licentiateship in Editorial Skills (City & Guilds) and is an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).

Matthew and Julie work together on their books, undertaking the research, writing, photography, layout and indexing as a team under the Hedgerow Medicine banner www.hedgerowmedicine.com
