Women around the world want smooth, young looking, velvety, silky soft, glowing wrinkle-free skin and Mother Nature is providing them a wonderful rosehip seed oil, called Rosa Mosqueta (Rosa Aff. Rubiginosa), the name Rosa Mosqueta was given by Aboriginals. It grows in the southern slopes of the high Andes, in the pollution free environment of Southern Chile. It has been a beauty secret of Chilean women for centuries. Its flowers are pink; as the petals drop, the plant develops a colorful orange, red seed pod. When the seeds of these pods are pressed they release an oil exceptionally rich in unsaturated  and essential fatty acids (EFAs), including oleic (15-20%), gamma linoleic (44-50%) and linolenic (30-35%) and are primarily Omega 3 and 6. Omega 6 is also known as gamma linoleic acid or GLA - needed by the body to produce compounds required to heal scar tissues and maintain a healthy looking skin. In addition to a high concentration of EFAs Rosa Mosqueta oil contains trans-retinoic acid, a natural form of vitamin A. This naturally occurring compound is part of the explanation why the Rosa Mosqueta oil and cream is so effective for scarring and anti-aging pigmentation.

Medical Scientific Discovery

The unique properties of Rosa Mosqueta seed oil (RMSO) were discovered through a planned research project. A team of researchers from the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacology at the University of Conception, the most prestigious private University in Chile, completed a study in 1983 in order to evaluate the positive action of the oil in the skin regeneration process. An oil preparation was applied on 180 people with extreme premature ageing and/or scarring to the face from burns, UV damage, traumatic, post-burning or surgical scars. The two year study focused on the cicatrizing (to heal or become healed by the formation of scar tissue) of RMSO. The results were remarkable. It was found that the oil produced an effective regeneration action on the skin, slowed down the advancement of ageing, diminished  the appearance of wrinkles and scarring, while restoring natural skin tone and colour.

Since then, numerous clinical studies on RSMO have been completed at various Universities in Chile and other Universities and Laboratories around the world which confirmed the therapeutic use of the oil and these results. The finding of the University of Conception opened the door for the use of the oil in cosmetics and herbal personal care products and today this wonderful oil is used worldwide in the medical and cosmetic field. It is also used as an special active ingredient by many prestigious cosmetic companies in Europe, North and Latin America successfully.

More Successful Research

In 1988 two researchers Dr Berta Pareja from the Faculty of Pharmacology and Biochemistry at Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru and R Horst Kehl of the School of Pharmacology at the University of Missouri, United States identified the presence of retinoic acid as the component and active factor responsible for the remarkable pharmacological properties of the oil. Retinoic acid is a derivative of retinol (vitamin A) and is marked as tretinoin. The therapeutic effects of the tropical application of tretinoin in the treatment of a variety of dermatologic disorders have been well researched and recognized for over 40 years. The most significant results have been produced in the treatment of photo-aged skin, skin damaged by excessive exposure to sunlight. Tretinoin can produce quick and positive changes in the skin without secondary side-effects, because the retinoic acid contained in the oil is in a natural state as part of a complex system of unsaturated fatty acids. Therefore its action is controlled and slowly released by nature, eliminating the risk of overdoses. Their findings were published entitled Contribution to identification and application of active  components in Rosa Aff. Rubiginosa.

Essential fatty acids are needed to produce hormone like substances called prostaglandins that are used to repair skin tissue. Similar results were found by doctors and researchers at Dermatology Clinic of the University of Seville, Spain. Dr Leonardo Rusowsky, surgeon at the Enrique Deformes Hospital in Santiago, Chile, acting as president of the corporation for aid to children with burns has been researching the healing properties of the oil and has stated that it improves the texture and quality of the skin by increasing its elasticity, fattens out scarring and improves the color of scars and surrounding skin. Rosa Mosqueta oil has healing and beauty properties well known by native Chileans for generations, and validated by scientific researchers worldwide!

A Remarkable Story

I was personable involved seventeen years ago in a case. I was contacted by a young woman in Abbotsord, British Columbia, Canada; she had played as a child with matches and as a result received burns all over her body - first, second and third degree burns except luckily her face. She showed me the burns on her arms and legs; there was really no skin and it looked like dark brown leather with lots of deep post-burn and traumatic scars without any flexibility. She said that she has never had a boyfriend, since she could never get intimate with him by taking her clothes off at night. I told her how to use the oil first on her arms; within 3-4 weeks there was a remarkable improvement and one could actually see that the oil had penetrated through the three layers of her ‘leather skin’ and created slowly from the inside-out new flexible skin, a miracle for both of us! After ten months of continuously using the oil on the rest of her body, the results were even more astounding; even the colour of her skin started to look normal. Another two month later I met her again and with tears in her eyes she told me that the skin on the rest of her body had been regenerated and that she now had for the first time a boyfriend, got engaged and that they were planning to get married in the near future! What a heartwarming story; we both had tears in our eyes. She gave me a huge hug and her word were “This has been for a me a miracle” and I was very happy for her.

My own personal experience with the oil is that I put it on after sunburns immediately; the next morning there were no blisters, no redness or scaling of my skin because the skin was dehydrated and absorbed the oil like a sponge.

Radiation Therapy - Radiotherapy

Dr Hans Harbst, Head of Radiology for the Chilean Air Force and Oncologist at Indisa Clinic in Santiago, Chile said: “As a radiotherapist, I have worked with many patients that have been operated  on for scars. Also the radiation to which they are exposed may produce secondary effects on the skin such as inflammation, darkening and dermatitis. These effects are in most cases unavoidable because it is the same that a surgeon leaves a scar when he or she operates. A radiotherapist leaves a mark on the radiated area, which are not injuries as such but skin reactions. This means a problem for the patient, especially when he or she are left with marks in areas exposed to view like the face, head or neck. I have applied RMSO on all types of skin; it acts on scars, reducing hyper-pigmentation, flattering hypertrophia (bulk scars) and loosening up fibrous chords. All these effects end up in a nearly complete attenuation of scars.”

To date, Rosa Mosqueta oil has helped in the recovery of thousands, if not millions of burn victims and is currently being used by several teams of plastic surgeons in the treatment of scars.

RSMO is used today in many cosmetics and personal care products such as creams, lotions, shampoo, conditioner, soap etc. The most effective way to benefit from the oil is by using it as a skin rehydrator. As we age, our oil glands diminish in size; people produce ten times more oil at the age of 25 than at age 50. This condition is aggravated by climatic and environmental conditions such as dryness and air pollution and toxicity. Due to lack of oil and depleted moisture, the skin starts to deteriorate. RMSO with its high absorbing level penetrates the skin almost instantly to restore this needed moisture balance.

It is important to know that histological changes (the ones that cannot be observed) precede clinical manifestation (the ones that can be observed) by at least a decade and this is why prevention is of paramount importance.

Effectiveness of RMSO Summary

  • Regeneration of skin cells and repair of damaged tissues;
  • Shows to retard the signs of premature ageing of the skin (sun and light damage);
  • Provides excellent results in the treatment of burns, inclusive sun burns, age spots, brown and unsightly spots;
  • Prevents UV sunburns, same goes for the cream;
  • Reduces wrinkles or ‘crow’s feet’ around the eyes, mouth and counters the drying of the skin
  • Attenuate scars (surgical, accidental, traumatic, post-burn);
  • Reduces the redness or hyper pigmentation;
  • Provides excellent results in treatment of skin used before and after exposed to radiotherapy;
  • Avoids the formation of keloid type scars (lumps) which may appear after surgical procedure and helps to make less apparent scars left by acne or chickenpox;
  • Works well on stretch marks after giving birth, eczema, dry skin, thread veins, broken capillaries;
  • The high content of vitamin C provides remarkable tissue rejuvenation and regeneration of the skin;
  • Fights the effect of photo-ageing which is characterized by wrinkles, yellow heads, lax, rough leathery inelastic and/or coarse skin with spotted or hypo pigmentation;
  • Very effective in the therapy of multiple military osteoma cutis of the face (is a rare disease in which there is formation of bony tissue in the skin that causes deformities), particularly when lesions are small and superficial;
  • Fatty acids have a very important functions in the regeneration of skin cells and repair of damaged tissues;
  • The oil and cream can be applied directly on the wounds or for skin healing.

Please note that the oil is unsuitable for use on oily skin; however most people have dry skin.

How to Get the Best Results from Using the Oil and Cream?

Simply apply and massage a few drops of the oil or cream on your skin in the morning and evening before bedtime, using a circular motion until nothing remains on the surface of the skin and is totally absorbed. People who have a sensitive skin should avoid contact with the eyes; it is our experience that most people have no problems with the oil; however don't use the cream. You can also start with the oil and then later switch to the cream.

What can you do to Maintain a Healthy Skin?

Remember the saying: “You are what you eat and I added on what you absorb?” Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables daily which are rich in antioxidants, vitamin A, C, E that protect your skin cells from oxidative damage. Taking vitamin C supplement is a good idea because it is essential for the formation of collagen and tissue repair. Zinc is essential for the production of new skin cells and certified organic pumpkin seeds are one of the best. Make sure that your diet contains good levels of essential fatty acids (EFAs), found in oily fish, fruit, nuts, seeds and legumes. Avoid sun exposure which causes the formation of free radicals damaging your skin cells and can even lead to melanoma, skin cancer. Try to eliminate consumption of saturated fats (trans-fats, junk food), refined sugar, salt (use cane sugar and Himalayan crystal or sea salt), processed food and food in microwave ovens,  and pop drinks. Too much alcohol and coffee (caffeine can block or reduce your ability to absorb nutrients) have negative effects on your skin; avoid or quit smoking Never take your supplements with tea and/or coffee and avoid drinking tea and coffee at meal times. Furthermore it is very important to exercise every day; walking is the best exercise.

What Kind of Rosa Mosqueta Oil and/or Cream should you Buy?

When purchasing RMSO or cream always make sure that it is certified organic or organic (no pesticides and herbicides spraying), pure oil unblended. Blended oils do not have the high concentration of active ingredients and the oil has to come from Chile only. The domestic varieties of rosehip oils do not have the high content of essential fatty acids which makes the original Rosa Mosqueta oil so unique and effective!
