There are countless books written on nutrition offering varying levels of benefit. There is no one size fits all approach, no one supplement to address all ailments. Along with good water the one thing that can probably make the biggest difference to our wellbeing is sunshine. When we think of sunshine we immediately think of vitamin D levels, and of course these are very important for many aspects of our health. However sunshine has more far reaching benefits than purely enhancing our vitamin D levels.

Chlorophyll background

Chlorophyll is sunlight in liquefied form. Researcher and author Victoria Boutenko says in her excellent book Green for Life:

“No life is possible without sunshine and no life is possible without chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is liquefied sun energy. Consuming as much chlorophyll as possible is like bathing our inner organs in sunshine.  The molecule of chlorophyll is remarkably similar to the heme molecule in human blood. Chlorophyll takes care of our body like a caring and loving mother. It heals and cleanses all our organs and even destroys many of our internal enemies, like pathogenic bacteria, fungi, cancer cells and many others.”

Chlorophyll is the most important constituent of plants. It allows plants to absorb light from the sun and convert it into energy. Over the years it has been greatly appreciated as an enhancer of health.  Since the chemical structure of chlorophyll is very similar to human blood it is regarded as a blood builder and cleanser.

Slow Down the Ageing Process Through a Better, Cleaner Internal Environment

Human body cells age faster and are more vulnerable to diseases when the body accumulates toxins. It is vital to consistently detoxify the body and inhibit toxin build up. Chlorophyll helps to cleanse, detoxify and eliminate toxins and body wastes from our internal organs while purifying the blood to restore improved oxygenation of the blood. Chlorophyll is a good detoxifier of the intestines. It acts as an internal deodorant helping to improve body odour, bad breath and odours from stools and urine.  It is not a laxative but has a normalizing effect on the digestive tract. Stools can often take on a green colour.   It is a regulator of intestinal fermentation. Candida albicans is caused by antibiotics, hormones, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants and a high sugar diet. These infections are very resistant and difficult to treat. However chlorophyll changes the environment making it less attractive for these pathogenic organisms to proliferate. Chlorophyll reduces the production of gas and toxins that occur during digestion and contributes to protecting the liver.  Adding chlorophyll to your daily regime is one of the best ways to continually and gently detox the body.

Good health does begin in the gut. It is important to ensure that the gut environment is ideal to allow beneficial microorganisms to proliferate and colonize. One of the most important aspects that impacts the gut environment is pH balance and chlorophyll helps greatly for this. Chlorophyll’s blood cleansing and liver supporting properties will indirectly help skin health. It is a true statement that when we are healthy on the inside we are beautiful on the outside. It can be of particular help with problems such as acne. It is not surprising that regular ingestion of chlorophyll will help get rid of unwanted excess weight. Excess weight is frequently a sign of excess body acidity. Chlorophyll’s ability to improver body pH balance and improve metabolism is helpful as part of an overall approach to weight loss. Not only will it help the body shed extra pounds it will also increase energy levels and help to improve immune response.

Now there are many reasons why we are told to eat our greens. As a general rule the greener the plant the richer it is in oxygen carrying chlorophyll.  That is one reason why plants such as spinach and kale have become very popular.  You also get algae such as chlorella and spirulina that are other great sources of chlorophyll. Taking a daily green juice, smoothie or shot of wheat grass are good ways to get more of this valuable nutrient into your body. In effect you are getting an infusion of light energy.
