Nothern College of Acupuncture

Established in 1988 we are the North’s only independent acupuncture College. We take enormous pride in our College in York, our dedicated students, and our committed teaching staff who are leading practitioners.

Study Acupuncture with us

Acupuncture is a vocation to be passionate about! Students from all walks of life study on our BSc and MS in Acupuncture. Although their backgrounds, ages, and experience differ greatly, they all want to earn a living in a way that engages them as a whole person and is true to their own values.

We offer a BSc and an MSc in Acupuncture and students on our BSc, who do not already have a degree, are eligible to apply for student loans and grants.

Our highly integrated approach creates skilled and confident acupuncturists. You are in clinic from the start! You learn a range of approaches, developing your own style.

You can fit our acupuncture courses around work and family commitments, studying at weekends (14 weekends a year) or on weekdays during term time. The College is in the heart of historic York with excellent transport links.

We are partnered with Middlesex University and accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board, so you can apply to join the British Acupuncture Council as soon as you qualify.

If you are a current healthcare practitioner with a degree in your field of practice you will be exempt from certain modules of our BSC or MSc in Acupuncture - this will mean reduced fees and attendance. You can still choose to study on the BSc or the MSc and at a time which suits you on the weekend or weekday course.

You will find here a friendly and nurturing environment in a specialist College dedicated to practitioner training. We give you the best possible teaching, support and clinical experience because everyone is working towards a common goal – the day you take control of your own destiny, becoming an acupuncturist and having a vocation you can be passionate about!

Study Chinese Herbal Medicine with us

Our next MSc in Chinese herbal medicine course will start in 2014. This course enables acupuncturists to add the power and reach of herbal medicine to your practice. You will qualify to practise Chinese herbal medicine after two years of study (12 weekends a year, with 9 days in clinic in the first year and 20 in the second year). The course includes the time and clinical experience you need to become a confident, safe and effective herbalist. You will study with leading practitioners on a course especially designed to make your learning easy. Statutory regulation is progressing under the Health and Care Professions Council and their standard requirement is for degree-level training. Our course leads to a University validated MSc or you can exit with an authentic University validated Post-Graduate Diploma (worth 120 credits at level 7).
