Against Mind-Body Medicine by Andrew Vickers That the health of the mind and body are linked is generally seen as obvious, almost beyond question. The belief is part of our folk-lore: clichés such as "healthy body, healthy mind" and "dying of a broken heart" express the physical-mental connection in opposite directions. Our art also reinforces the belief that states of mind can express themselves as disease or relief therefrom. Perhaps the most explicit example is Solzhenitsyn's "Cancer Ward" in which patients speculate about a chemical secreted by the brain which enters the blood circulation and cures disease. A Healthy Liver and Weight Loss by Dr Sandra Cabot, MD. The liver has everything to do with how we live that's why it is called the "liver". The state of your liver will have a huge bearing upon how well you live, how long you will live and how you will look and feel. (Lots of graphics, long download.) Self-Help for Back Pain by Pete Moore About 5 years ago, when I was 39 years old, a couple of discs in my lower back prolapsed. How did it happen? Or more correctly, how did I do it? Listening to the Living Process: The Mind/Body Connection in Craniosacral Therapy by Matthew Appleton A friend of mine began to develop scoliosis as a child and spent her early teens in a brace, as an attempt to prevent it from worsening. Now, in her early thirties, she has a slight, but distinctive, curvature of the spine. When, over the years, she enquired as to why the scoliosis had developed in the first place, the doctors' replies had been a unanimous "these things just happen". This answer is not surprising. It is one that we have all heard at some time or other. What is surprising is that so many people seem content with it. Personal Growth and Insight by Ginny Fraser In 1985 I got involved with a personal development seminar company called Insight, which has become a very important part of my life. So much so that I now travel around the world facilitating in the Insight seminar, and I thank God for the day my friend coerced me through the door for my first seminar. |

Emotional Transformation and Cellular Healing by Kevin Billett Psycho-neuro-Immunology research has produced compelling evidence that our thought patterns directly and instantaneously affect our whole body chemistry, and can suppress our immune system. Mahonia aquifolium The new herbal treatment for psoriasis and eczema by Dr Maher Succar It is encouraging to learn that researchers have discovered an effective new herbal treatment from a plant known as Mahonia aquifolium (otherwise known as 'Oregon Grape Root') which has been found to effectively alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis in over eighty per cent of psoriasis sufferers. Trees for Health: Winter Trees by Róisín Caroll Celtic legends and myths permeate the very soil and the soul of their peoples. Throughout these tales, there are many references to trees and their healing powers. Holistic Approaches to Insomnia by Janette Stroud There is only so much insomnia that one person can take. The moment that I decided to get the better of it a major insight occurred. I realised that for most of us it is a self esteem issue that needs to be dealt with and that it could be tackled in a variety of ways. The Benefits of Extended Breastfeeding by Mary Nondé While some medical opinion suggests the optimum time to introduce solids is between four and six months, there is no reason why you can't breastfeed exclusively for much longer than this and keep going long after solids have been introduced A Working Mother's Experience of Extended Breastfeeding by Kathleen Finch When I discovered that I was unexpectedly expecting, I decided that I would give breastfeeding a try. My late mother bottle-fed all three of her children, so I had no idea whether or not I would be 'able' to do so. During the pre-natal period, mothers are led to believe that breastfeeding is exceptionally difficult, and the message we are given is that breastfeeding is usually safely abandoned after about six weeks! But I decided to throw caution to the wind and try anyway. |
