Dieting Glut, The by Jane Dunkeld, Ph.D. Doctors have known about the risks to health of being overweight for centuries; Hippocrates (460-377 BC) noted that stout people were more likely to die suddenly and unexpectedly. These observations have been confirmed and extended; many studies have shown that obesity is a major risk for heart disease, stroke, type II diabetes, many types of cancer, infertility and lung disease (see e.g. Manson et al. 1995). People have been trying out different methods of reducing weight for centuries, too, and this article aims to give an overview of these.

Dieting – A Recipe for Failure by Peter Cohen Dieting, like conventional medicine, works on the expectation of failure. Conventional medicine is designed to deal with ill health and it factors in a high drop out or death rate.

Asthma Interferential Therapy and Chartered Physiotherapy by Wendy Emberson A five-year-old boy developed asthma at six months old after being prescribed antibiotics for an ear infection. Up to that point, he was a normal healthy child. After a short course of Interferential Therapy [IFT] and chest physiotherapy, this child had no signs and symptoms of the asthma and no longer needed the ventolin or becotide. He has remained healthy and symptom free for four years. After his last session, he stood by a field and watched the farmers cut the hay. Despite the clouds of dust all around him, he only had a slightly runny nose. Unfortunately, no interest was shown by any of the medical practitioners concerned, despite the obvious benefits.

Physiotherapy Case Studies by Wendy Emberson The following series of case studies were all carried out by members of Physiofirst (the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice).

Tea Tree Oil by Cynthia Olsen In today's societies, natural medicine is becoming more mainstream. The baby boomers now make up a large portion of consumers in the natural products industry. Sales of herbs in the United States market alone in the natural health food stores and chain stores rose over 20% between 1994 and 1996, and continue to rise in popularity, while other countries in the world are following suit.
